Two tourists have lost their lives after a tourist van they were travelling in was involved in an accident at Maji ya Chumvi area along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway on Wednesday, December 11.
According to a police report obtained by Nairobileo.co.ke, the driver of the tourist van was driving from Diani, Mombasa, heading to Nairobi when he collided head-on with another vehicle from the opposite direction.
The male tourists, Polish nationals, died on the spot, while four others who were in the tourist vehicle sustained injuries.
The injured were rushed to Mariakani Sub County Hospital for treatment and later transferred to Pandya Memorial Hospital, while the bodies of the deceased were ferried to Coast General Hospital mortuary.
"The driver was driving a tourist van, a Toyota Land Cruiser, from Diani, heading towards the Nairobi direction, and on reaching the point of the accident, he collided head-on with a Mercedes Actros, which was being driven by an unknown driver from the opposite direction who escaped after the accident after dangerously overtaking a fleet of motor vehicles," read part of the police report.

Police visited the accident scene, and the vehicles were towed to Mariakani Police Station for inspection as investigations into the incident continue.
The incident comes just a day after seven people were injured following a road accident in Soweto area along the Kinungi black spot in Nakuru County.
Confirming the incident on Tuesday, December 10, St. John Ambulance stated that the accident involved a van and lorry which collided head-on resulting in the injuries.
