The Kenya Railways Corporation has announced that commuter train services will be temporarily suspended.

The Kenya Railways Corporation has announced that commuter train services will be suspended from December 23 to January 5, 2025.

In a statement released on Thursday, December 15, Kenya Railways did not, however, give the reason for the suspension.

“We wish to notify members of the public that commuter train services will temporarily be suspended from December 23, 2024, to January 5, 2025,” read part of the statement.

However, the company disclosed that the suspension will not affect the SGR Link train and the weekly Safari trains to Nanyuki and Kisumu.

"Kindly note that this temporary suspension will not affect the Standard Gauge Railway Link train and the weekly Safari trains to Nanyuki and Kisumu which will continue to operate as per schedule,” Kenya Railways remarked.

The company further stated that the Madaraka Express Services via SGR will also continue to run as per the normal schedule.

The announcement came after Kenya Railways announced the introduction of additional trips for the Nairobi-Kisumu route owing to increased demand during the festivities.

The corporation announced that it was adding two more trips for those leaving Nairobi to the lakeside city.

Apart from Friday, there will now be a train service on Mondays and Wednesdays. The train will be leaving Nairobi at 4:00 p.m.

Likewise, additional trips were announced for the Kisumu-Nairobi route.

Similarly, Kenya Railways announced the introduction of additional trips on the Nairobi-Nanyuki route effective December 20.

"The train will run daily from the 20th to 24th December, 2024, departing the Nairobi Central Railway Station at 9:00 a.m. The train will also run daily to Nairobi from 21st to 25th December 2024, departing the Nayuki Station at 9:00 a.m.," Kenya Railways stated.
