The Council of Legal Education (CLE) has issued an updated list of licensed legal education providers as of December 31, 2024.
In a statement, CLE outlined institutions authorized to offer Master of Laws (LL.M.), Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.), and Diploma in Law programs across the country.
In the Master of Laws (LL.M.) category, four institutions have been approved by the CLE.
Strathmore Law School’s license is valid until November 19, 2024, while Mount Kenya University School of Law has its accreditation running until March 23, 2026.
Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) Faculty of Law has been licensed until September 21, 2028, and Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture & Technology (JKUAT) School of Law holds a license valid until June 20, 2028.

For Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) programs, CLE has licensed eighteen institutions.
Among these is UMMA University School of Law, which offers a unique combination of Bachelor of Laws and Sharia with its license valid until September 24, 2025.
The University of Nairobi Faculty of Law (Parklands Campus), Moi University School of Law, and Africa Nazarene University are all licensed until December 10, 2025.
Strathmore Law School, Maseno University, and the Catholic University of Eastern Africa are among the institutions whose licenses extend until late 2027.
Some of the longest licenses in this category are held by Kenyatta University School of Law and Riara Law School, with accreditation valid until April 2029.
Additionally, four institutions have been accredited to offer Diploma in Law programs.
These include the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA), whose license is valid until November 2027, and Mount Kenya University School of Law (Parklands Campus), with a license running until April 2029.
The Kenya School of Law stands out as it provides not only the standard Diploma in Law program but also a specialized diploma in Para-Legal Studies, both licensed until April 9, 2029.
The CLE also announced pending applications for licensing and renewal from several institutions.
Among them are Kenyatta University and Strathmore Law School, both of which have applied for Master of Laws (LL.M.) programs.
