The United Kingdom has welcomed the release of five nationals who had been reportedly abducted on various dates in December 2024.
In a statement on Thursday, January 9, UK High Commissioner to Kenya, Neil Wigan, underscored the need for swift and transparent investigations into cases of reported abductions.
Wigan noted that such actions would reinforce Kenya’s commitment to protecting fundamental rights and freedoms.
"We welcome the release of 5 Kenyans on 6 January, following their disappearance. Swift and transparent investigations into reported abductions will demonstrate Kenya’s commitment to fundamental rights, as it takes up its seat on the UN Human Rights Council," he said.

The five young men, namely Gideon Kibet, alias Kibet Bull, his brother Ronny Kiplagat, Billy Mwangi, Bernard Kavuli and Peter Muteti were released on Monday, January 6.
Ronny was located in Machakos County and has since rejoined his family while Billy returned to his father's home in Majengo.
On the other hand, Kavuli was found at Moi's Bridge and has been reunited with his family who were waiting for him at Ngong Police Station.
Muteti who was abducted on December 21, 2024, from his apartment near Nairobi, was released by his abductors in Nairobi and found his way home.
Kibet Bull resurfaced on Monday evening; around 4PM and later appeared at a TV interview.
In an update on his X account, the cartoonist disclosed that he was dropped off at Luanda, Vihiga County around 3-4 AM.
Kibet Bull added that he then went to a local disco matanga where he stayed until 6AM when he booked a bus back home.
"They dropped me in Luanda, Vihiga at 3-4 AM today. I did not know whether to enter or book a room. I went to a disco matanga and danced until 6 AM when I went to book a ticket," he wrote on X.
The five men were known to be fierce critics of President William Ruto's government.
