A contingent of 217 additional police officers flagged off for a peacekeeping mission in Haiti by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen on Saturday night, January 18, has arrived in the Caribbean nation.

They joined the first contingent of 400 0fficers who arrived in Haiti in June 2024.

In a video seen by Nairobileo.co.ke, the officers landed in Haiti on Sunday, January 19, and broke into a jubilant dance upon alighting from the plane.

The team, which travelled aboard a Kenya Airways flight, arrived dressed in full combat gear and heavily armed, ready to embark on their mission in Haiti.

Carrying the Kenyan flag alongside the Multinational Security Support (MSS) flag, the officers chanted, 'They asked where is Kenya; here we are. We have arrived!' as they proudly showcased their dance moves at the airport.

This is the third contingent of police officers being deployed by Kenya for the peacekeeping mission in Haiti.

While flagging off the troops, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen highlighted the success of the Kenya-led mission in Haiti, noting that it has significantly reduced gang violence in the Caribbean nation.

"The Kenya-led mission has made tremendous progress in reducing gang violence, earning praise across the globe, including from both the outgoing and incoming US administrations.

"Our commitment to this historic mission is unwavering and we will continue to mobilise all the necessary international support for it to succeed," Murkomen stated.

Third contingent of  Kenyan police officers to Haiti

Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo, who was also present during the event, prayed for the safety and success of the officers in the mission.

"This dedicated team joins the first two contingents already on the ground, emphasizing Kenya's leadership in international cooperation and our unwavering support for restoring stability in regions facing critical challenges. As these brave officers carry our flag to Haiti, we honour their service and pray for their safety and success in fostering peace and hope in the communities they will serve," Omollo remarked.


In an update by the Ministry of Interior, major gangs have been destabilized including; Delmas 6 Gang-Jimmy Cherizier, Kraze Barye-Vitel Homme INNOCENT, Gran Griff gang-Elan LUCKSON since the deployment of the Kenyan police. 

"MSS, in conjunction with HNP, has prioritized the protection of children and educational institutions. Sensitization and outreach programs to discourage gang affiliation have been consistently carried out, ensuring children’s safety and promoting educational continuity.

"MSS is supporting the HNP in securing the Police School with a four-month fast –truck basic training of 747 cadets which began on 27th August 2024 and whose trainees successfully graduated on 10th January 2025," part of the statement by Ministry of Interior read.
