National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula has slammed Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya over claims that the Social Health Authority (SHA) is not working.
Speaking on Monday, January 20, in Mumias, Kakamega County, Wetang'ula noted that anyone complaining that the new healthcare program is not working should register first.
The National Assembly Speaker asked Kenyans to register with SHA and then complain if they realised it was not working.
“As the speaker, I used to pay Ksh1,500 to the defunct NHIF. But with SHA, I’m paying Ksh58,000 per month. If I get sick, I will not be covered by SHA. The money I pay is to help you because, as Parliamentarians, we have another insurance fund.
“Don’t be on the forefront saying SHA is not working and you have not been registered. Go and get registered and if it is not working, you are legitimately right to complain,” Wetang’ula remarked.

The speaker called on the unity and patience of Kenyans even as he asked the public to criticize the government in a respectful manner.
Wetang'ula spoke after Salasya asked President William Ruto to hire him as his personal advisor so that he could tell him the truth.
The lawmaker claimed that the president's advisors were lying to him that some government initiatives like SHA were working yet they were not.
“Mr. President, I want you to take me as your personal advisor and pay me because your people don’t tell you the truth. They tell you SHA is working, but it's not working, they tell you that the new university model is working, but it's not working," Salasya stated.
