The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) has announced the development of guidelines aimed at addressing the ethical use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), data, and social media in journalism.
In a press statement issued on Monday, January 20, MCK CEO David Omwoyo invited members of the public, stakeholders, and interested parties to provide feedback on the proposed guidelines.
According to MCK, the guidelines aim to help media practitioners navigate the challenges and opportunities posed by AI and social media while maintaining professionalism and ethics.
"These guidelines represent a proactive approach to addressing the evolving challenges and opportunities presented by technological advancements in journalism," the statement read.

The Council has developed four key documents including Data Governance Guide for Media Practice in Kenya, Media Handbook for Reporting on Artificial Intelligence in Kenya, and Media Guide on the Use of Artificial Intelligence in Kenya.
Additionally, the Council has prepared a Guide on the Use of Social Media and the Internet for Media Practice in Kenya.
Omwoyo emphasized the importance of diverse perspectives in shaping the final documents and invited written submissions by January 26, 2025.
