Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has alleged that President William Ruto sent offensive messages to Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi after he was heckling while delivering the president's condolence message at a funeral in Embu County.
During a live TikTok session on Thursday, January 23, Gachagua claimed that President Ruto accused Muturi of inciting the mourners to disregard his condolence message.
He further asserted that if residents of the Mt. Kenya region rejected a condolence message, it was an indication that they were no longer in support of the president.
“If you find out that people from Mt. Kenya have refused to accept your condolence messages, they are through with you forever. And it is unnecessary to harass Justin Muturi. They are harassing and saying that he is the one who incited people to refuse to listen to the president’s condolence message.
"Muturi was really abused by the president. He wrote him very offensive messages at night accusing him of inciting people not to listen to his condolence message. That is very unfair to Muturi. It is the people of Mt. Kenya who refused,” Gachagua remarked.

The former deputy president was referencing the burial of former Embu Senator Lenny Kivuti's son, Eric Mutugi, where mourners refused to allow Muturi to read the president's condolence message to the family.
Meanwhile, Muturi has been in the headlines recently after he accused the National Intelligence Service (NIS) of abducting his son before he was released following the intervention of the president.
On Tuesday, January 21, the CS was conspicuously absent at the first Cabinet meeting of 2025 at the Kakamega State Lodge, which was convened by President Ruto.
His absence sparked fresh speculation about his tenure in the government after a section of leaders asked him to resign.
