Dissatisfied by the response, a section of MPs stood up to air their frustrations, further forcing the PS to announce that they would withdraw the case.


Medical Services PS Harry Kimtai was taken to task over the arrest of Grace Njoki - a woman who went viral after storming Ministry of Health offices over Social Health Authority (SHA) delays.

While appearing before MPs during the ongoing retreat on Thursday, January 30, the PS was forced to explain why the Njoki was arrested yet she was expressing frustrations being experienced by Kenyans.

In particular, MPs led by Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo demanded that the complaint be withdrawn.

"Why was the elderly lady arrested for expressing her frustration? She should not be arrested," the lawmaker lamented.

In response, the PS acknowledged that the Ministry was the complainant, adding that they were going to review the case.

"Honourable members we have heard you and since the Ministry is the complainant, we are going to review the case," the PS stated.

"We are going to withdraw the case," Kimtai remarked after the pressure.

On his part, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula advised the Ministry to withdraw the case given that no one was injured during the incident. Wetangula added that the arrest of Njoki tainted the image of the Ministry.

According to a statement by the DCI, Njoki was arrested for causing disturbance at Afya House.

She was later released on a Ksh10,000 cash bail.
