According to the speaker, the reports from; Kwale, Baringo and Nyamira did not have all the required documents or were submitted wrongly.

National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi on Thursday rejected three BBI voting reports submitted by county assemblies after it emerged that they did not meet the set standards.

According to the speaker, the reports from; Kwale, Baringo, and Nyamira did not have all the required documents or were submitted wrongly.

The first county assembly affected is Baringo which did not provide a copy of the draft BBI bill while submitting the voting report.

Kwale and Nyamira were also affected by the same issue. However, for Nyamira, the County Assembly submitted a bill with different clauses as compared to what IEBC issued the county assembly.

According to Speaker Muturi, the mistakes are crucial and therefore, the was no other option other than rejecting the three reports until they are tabled as expected.

“At this moment it is difficult to determine whether Nyamira county assembly received the correct bill and amended it,” the speaker said.

So far, 41 counties have passed the BBI Bill while two; Nandi and Baringo have rejected it. The threshold for forwarding the Bill to the National Assembly is the passage by at least 24 county assemblies.

Meanwhile, the BBI secretariat has announced that sensitization campaigns will kickoff nationwide from Monday, March 1, 2021.
