Peter Waithaka Macharia, a notorious violent robber has been handed a 35-year prison sentence for involvement in armed robbery.
In a statement on Tuesday, February 11, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said Macharia on October 15, 2022, was involved in an armed robbery that resulted in the death of Greek national Angelos Tsekilas.
During the incident, Macharia and two of his accomplices shot Tsekilas in the chest before stealing various items of unknown value from the Greek national.
“During the crime that took place on October 15, 2022, along Menelik Road, Angelos Tsekilas, a Greek national, tragically lost his life after being shot in the chest. The armed gang, consisting of three men, also stole a range of items of unknown value from the victim before taking off on a motorcycle,” read part of the statement by DCI.
DCI detectives from Kilimani Police Station then launched investigations and nabbed Macharia in his hideout in Gachie, Kiambu County on October 21, 2022.

On December 28, 2022, he was arraigned before the Chief Magistrate’s Court in Kibera and charged with robbery with violence.
“Upon processing, Macharia appeared before the Chief Magistrate’s Court in Kibera on December 28, 2022, where he was formally charged with robbery with violence under Section 296(2) of the Penal Code,” DCI stated.
The prosecution presented watertight evidence during the case and Macharia was found guilty and sentenced to 35 years in prison.
“Armed with watertight evidence, the prosecution presented its case before Hon. Kahuya where Macharia earned 35 years behind bars,” DCI added.
