Police officers in Elementaita, Nakuru County have arrested 8 suspects and recovered 497 kilograms of bhang.

In an update on Friday, February 14, the National Police Service (NPS) said they received a tipoff from members of the public and raided a homestead in the area.

During the raid, the officers conducted an extensive search and discovered the bhang stacked in 21 sacks.

“A coordinated security operation conducted early this morning in Elementaita, Nakuru County, led to the arrest of eight suspects and the recovery of 497 kilograms of suspected cannabis. Acting on a tipoff from members of the public, Police Officers raided a homestead in the area, where they conducted an extensive search recovering 21 sacks of the illicit substance,” read part of the statement.

NPS noted that the 8 suspects are in custody awaiting processing and arraignment in court.

The police further thanked Kenyans for providing information that led to the arrest of the 8 suspects.

“National Police Service commends members of the public for providing information that led to the recovery and arrest of the suspects,” NPS added.

This comes days after detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) apprehended two suspects of drug trafficking during a raid in Kombani, Kwale County.

The two, Kassim Omar Konerwa, and Issa Omar Konerwa, were arrested with 12 sacks of bhang, believed to have been stored at the homestead pending distribution.
