The arrest was confirmed by Kiambu Senator Karungo Wa Thang'wa, noting that the DCI officers had not provided a reason for detaining the MP.

Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi was on Tuesday, February 18, reportedly arrested outside his residence in Kenyatta Road, Juja.

Following his arrest, he was taken to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters for questioning along Kiambu Road.

Kiambu Senator Karungo Wa Thang'wa confirmed the arrest, noting that the DCI officers had not provided a reason for detaining the MP.

"DCI at it again. They have arrested Juja MP George Koimburi. Reason? They are yet to say," Thang'wa wrote on X.

The arrest comes a day after Koimburi claimed that the Kenyan government allocated Ksh13 billion to support Raila Odinga's campaign for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship.

Speaking at PCEA Judea Unity Church on Sunday, February 16, the MP questioned the rationale behind such significant expenditure.

Koimbiri suggested that the funds could have been better utilized to complete stalled government projects across the country.

“Where did the Ksh13 billion go? Why was such a large amount allocated to a losing campaign when it could have been better utilized for the completion of stalled government projects across the country," he stated.

Koimburi is not new to controversial remarks. In June 2024, he alleged that MPs were offered Ksh 2 million each to vote in favor of the Finance Bill 2024.

"We were offered money… you saw how they carried money in sacks. We were told that for every yes vote, we would receive Ksh 2 million," he said during a church service.

However, Koimburi later apologized to his fellow MPs in Parliament, acknowledging that his allegations lacked evidence.

“I rise to apologize to my fellow Members. I made a mistake by claiming that MPs who voted yes for the Finance Bill were bribed with Ksh 2 million.

“Mr. Speaker, I am here to say sorry because I do not have any evidence that they received money. I urge the Members to forgive me, so we can move forward for the betterment of this country," he said.
