Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo has announced that the 2025 Madaraka Day Celebrations will be held in Homa Bay County.

Speaking during a visit to the county on Thursday, February 27, the PS who leads the National Celebrations Steering Committee, detailed that the event would be hosted at the Raila Odinga Stadium.

Initially, the June 1 celebrations were to be held in Kitui County while Homa Bay was to host the Mashujaa Day Celebrations on October 20.

The PS added that Kitui County would host the next national holiday celebration - Mashujaa Day.

"We had initially planned to host Mashujaa Day in Homa Bay County but because of how the arrangements are, it has become necessary that we host Madaraka Day here," he remarked.

"It has been the tradition of this administration that we host these celebrations across the country."

PS Omollo added that the national event will be themed on the blue economy.

"These Madaraka Day celebrations will be around the blue economy and maritime. There is no better place to celebrate that than Homa Bay. As you all know, Homa Bay has 80 percent of Lake Victoria," he stated.

On her part, Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga expressed that the move was welcome given that the county had never hosted a national holiday event.

She added that they would work in the steering committee to ensure that the event is successful.
