Mudavadi has explained why he did not attend the signing of a framework agreement between President Ruto and Raila.

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, through his office, has explained why he did not attend the signing of a framework agreement between President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga at KICC, Nairobi.

According to a statement from his office, Mudavadi had a packed schedule on Friday, March 7, with four key assignments, which kept him away from the high-profile event.

“In the early morning, Mudavadi attended a Kenya Kwanza PG at State House, chaired by President William Ruto, where the ruling coalition’s legislators endorsed the signing of the deal between President Ruto’s ruling party United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and Rt Hon. Raila’s Orange Democratic Movement (ODM),” the statement read.

Later in the day, Mudavadi was on official duty in Bomet and Kakamega counties, representing the Head of State at different events.

"The PCS later held a meeting at his office around 10 am before he represented the Head of State in two events in Bomet and Kakamega counties as assigned by the President.

"In Chemaner village, Bomet East Constituency, PCS read the President's message of condolence to the family of Dr. Aurelia Rono, Principal Secretary, State Department for Parliamentary Affairs during the burial of the father Mzee David Kiplang'at Arap Kirinyet," the statement added.

In the evening, Mudavadi attended a thanksgiving service at Friends’ Boys School in Lugusi, Kakamega County, where he presented a school bus.

"Later in the evening, Dr. Mudavadi also on assignment from the President, attended the Thanksgiving Service at Friends' Boys School - Lugusi, Kakamega County, where he presented to the school, a bus that the Head of State had Promised the people of Lugusi, in honour of the Late Hon. Malulu Injendi, Malava Member of Parliament," the statement further read.

The Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary stated that Mudavadi has been a key figure in advocating for national unity and supporting the broad-based government initiative.

"Dr. Mudavadi is not only a firm believer in the unity of the country but also one of the strong campaigners of the Broad-based government. The signing of the pact between UDA and ODM comes hot on the heels of the merger of Amani National Congress (ANC), and UDA," the statement concluded.

The agreement between UDA and ODM comes in the wake of the recent merger between the Amani National Congress (ANC) and UDA.

The merger was formalized during a ceremony at State House on January 17, 2025, in the presence of Ruto and Mudavadi.

As part of the merger, key leadership positions were allocated to former ANC officials. Issa Timamy, the former ANC Party Leader was appointed as a Deputy Party Leader.

Kelvin Lunani, the former ANC Chair, now serves as Vice-Chair of the newly formed party while Omboko Milemba, who previously served as ANC Secretary-General took up the role of Deputy Secretary-General.
