Tompoi who served in the Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission in Haiti was killed on February 23, 2025, during an operation against gangs in the Ségur-Savien area of the Artibonite department.

The officer sustained injuries during the mission and was airlifted to Aspen Level 2 Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The MSS mission, led by Kenyan forces, has been operating in Haiti since June 2024 to assist in controlling violent gangs that have been destabilizing the country.

This incident marked the first casualty among the Kenyan contingent.
