President William Ruto's Cabinet has directed the Ministry of Transport to finalise the framework of the dualling of the Rironi-Mau Summit Road by June 1, 2025.
As revealed in a Cabinet brief dated Tuesday, March 11, the Cabinet also directed that the groundbreaking of the road be done by June 2025.
"The project will upgrade the road from a two-way single carriageway to a four-lane dual carriageway, significantly improving traffic flow," read the brief in part.
"This road development is expected to ease transport and travel from Nairobi through Nakuru to Western Kenya, a route that has long suffered from serious traffic congestion on weekends and during national holidays."

According to the brief, the road is expected to be completed in June 2027 before its launch by President William Ruto.
The construction of the Rironi-Mau Summit road has been delayed in recent years, including the cancelation of a contract that had been awarded to a French company.
Notably, following the cancellation of the contract, the government focused on raising funds to undertake the project from China.
“We had a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) program with a French company, but it didn’t materialize. However, we have another alternative," the Head of State expressed in December.
"The commitment I want to give you is that next year, we will begin constructing the dual carriageway from Nairobi to Malaba. We are in discussions with various companies to ensure this project eases congestion and enhances transport capability.”
