As a precaution, motorists and road users were advised to avoid using the road even as others called on the National Police Service (NPS) to deploy its officers.


Motorists plying Thika Road on Tuesday afternoon were subject to robbery by a group of rowdy youth.

In the incident that was captured on video by motorists and bystanders, the group of youth were filmed walking on the road, causing mayhem and taking the personal property of road users.

According to those who were on site, the incident happened near Utalii College, close to Mathare.

As a result, some motorists were forced to seek alternative routes.

In some cases, road users were filmed using rungus to scare the group of rowdy youth.

As a precaution, motorists and road users were advised to avoid using the road even as others called on the National Police Service (NPS) to deploy its officers.

"As of now, avoid Thika Road at the KCA service lane. There is a group of people who are robbing people and drivers wanaingia hadi kwa magari (they are even getting inside the vehicles)," read a precaution message on Sikika Road Safety, a popular road safety page on Facebook.

"National Police Service, we need a serious backup now.

Even as many questioned where the youth came from, some opined that the group may have taken advantage of the political activity that was happening in Mathare.

This was in reference to President William Ruto's development tour of Mathare and Ruaraka.
