Samuel Musembi, who had been on the run over the murder of British businessman Campbell Scott, has died by suicide.

According to reports, the suspect died on Wednesday, March 12, while receiving treatment at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH).

Until the unfortunate incident, Musembi had been hiding at a friend's house in Dandora, Nairobi.   

According to detectives, he had sought temporary accommodation at the friend’s residence, stating that he wanted to rest away from his house. 

On Tuesday morning, March 11, the friend left Musembi at his house and headed to work, but upon returning in the evening, he found the door locked from the inside.

This prompted him to break in, and once inside, he discovered Musembi lying on the bed with foam coming from his mouth and nose, as well as blood oozing from a stab wound on his neck.

The friend informed Musembi's family members and neighbors who rushed him to Mama Lucy Hospital, but they were reportedly turned away due to the severity of his condition. 

He was then transferred to Kenyatta National Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday morning.

This new development comes a week after the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) called on Kenyans with information the whereabouts of Musembi, and his accomplices, Benard Mbunga Mbus and Alphonse Munyao Kilewa, to come forward.

In a statement on Friday, March 7, DCI said the three suspects are linked to the murder of Scott whose body was found in Makongo Forest, Makueni County. 

“The Directorate of Criminal Investigations is calling upon members of the public to volunteer information that may lead to the arrest of three murder suspects whose photographs are displayed below.

“The suspects are linked to the brutal murder of 58-year-old Briton, Campbell Scott, whose partially decomposed body was found on February 22, 2025, in Makongo Forest, Makueni Sub-County,” read the statement in part.

According to DCI, the three suspects went into hiding after killing Scott and dumping his body.
