Isaac Mutuma is set to be sworn in as the new Meru County Governor after the High Court upheld the impeachment of Kawira Mwangaza.
As detailed in a special Gazette Notice published on Friday, March 14, the Deputy Governor will be sworn in as the next county boss on Monday, March 17.
Martin Gitije, the Chairperson of the Assumption of the Office of Governor Committee, detailed that the event will be held at the Mwendantu Grounds.
"Pursuant to Articles 181, 182 (1) (e) and 182 (2) of the Constitution of Kenya, sections 32B and 33 (7) of the County Governments Act, sections 5, 6, 11 (1), 12 (1) and 16 (1) (a) of the Assumption of the Office of Governor Act and further to Gazette Notice No. 10351, dated the 20th of August, 2024, and in accordance with the provisions of Article 74 of the Constitution of Kenya, it is notified for information of the general public that the swearing-in ceremony of Isaac Mutuma M’Ethingia, as the Governor of Meru County, shall take place on Monday, 17th March, 2025, at Mwendantu Grounds, starting at 8.30 am," read te notice in part.

The move by the assumption office committee came hours after Justice Bahati Mwamuye dismissed Mwangaza's petition that was challenging her impeachment.
"The petitioner has not shown that the Senate’s analysis of the applicable law and evidence was so profoundly incorrect that no reasonable quasi-judicial body properly applying its mind to the law and the facts would have arrived at that conclusion, thus warranting interference by this court,” the judge ruled.
Mwangaza was impeached in August 2024 following allegations of gross violation of the constitution and the violation of the Public Officer Ethics Act.
Profile of Isaac Mutuma M’Ethingia
M'Ethingia is the son of former Njuri Ncheke Council of Elders chairman Paul M'Ethingia.
Before the 2022 General Election, where he was picked as Mwangaza's running mate, he served in the Kenya Prisons Service for 19 years as a Senior Sergeant and Social Welfare Officer.
He was also a reverend of the Methodist Churches of Kenya.
He graduated with a Higher Diploma in Forensic Psychology and Criminology from the Kenya Institute of Studies in Criminal Justice and also has a Bachelor's Degree in Theology from Kenya Methodist University.
