KDF will oversee the modernization and expansion of two major projects in Siaya County following discussions between Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya and Governor James Orengo at Ulinzi House.

The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) will oversee the modernization and expansion of two major projects in Siaya County following discussions between Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya and Governor James Orengo at Ulinzi House.

In a statement on Wednesday, August 27, the KDF confirmed that the groundbreaking ceremony for the projects is scheduled to take place in September.

"The stage is set for next month’s ground breaking ceremony for the modernization of Siaya Referral Hospital and expansion of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Stadium," the statement read.

According to KDF, the modernization of Siaya County Referral Hospital will increase the beds capacity by 500, improving healthcare access for residents.

"In partnership with Siaya County Government, the Ministry of Defence (MOD) through Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) will oversee the construction of a new 5-storey block that will expand the capacity of Siaya Level 5 Hospital by 500 beds," the statement added.

On the other hand, KDF noted that the planned upgrade of the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Stadium is expected to transform it into a modern, large-capacity arena.

"The expansion of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Stadium that will include construction of new terraces and roof will raise the multi-sport facility’s capacity from the current 5,500 to 20,000-seater," the statement concluded.

This comes over a month after KDF also announced that it will oversee the construction and completion of two stadiums and a hospital project in Nakuru County.

KDF made the announcement on Wednesday, July 16, following a meeting between Tuya and Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika.

“The Cabinet Secretary and the Governor discussed priority Government infrastructure projects to be implemented by the Ministry of Defence (MOD) through Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) in Nakuru County,” the statement read.

The projects include the long-stalled Afraha Stadium, which is now set for completion under the supervision of KDF, and the construction of the Olenguruone Stadium.

Also high on the agenda is the finalization of the Trauma Centre at Nakuru Teaching and Referral Hospital that has remained incomplete since 2012.

"The Government has prioritized the completion of Afraha Stadium, construction of Olenguruone Stadium and finalization of the Trauma Centre at Nakuru Teaching and Referral Hospital that has been pending since 2012,” the statement added.
