NTSA has condemned the reckless behavior of a matatu driver who was captured on video dangerously navigating through traffic along the Thika Superhighway.

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has condemned the reckless behavior of a matatu driver who was captured on video dangerously navigating through traffic along the Thika Superhighway.

In the footage, the public service vehicle is seen speeding through traffic as passengers stick their heads out of the windows while the matatu drives uncomfortably close to other vehicles.

In a statement on Wednesday, August 27, NTSA termed the incident dangerous and unacceptable, warning that such actions put both passengers and other road users at risk.

"This is unacceptable! A split-second lapse in concentration or a poor decision by the driver can have devastating consequences, leading to fatalities or serious injuries. This underscores the critical importance and dire need for constant vigilance and adherence to road safety practices for both drivers and passengers," the statement read.

NTSA confirmed that enforcement officers have been notified and action will be taken against the driver responsible for the vehicle.

"We have alerted enforcement officers and we will take action," the statement concluded.

This comes months after NTSA impounded two vehicles linked to President William Ruto's George Ruto.

In a statement dated Thursday, January 9, NTSA announced that the matatus were at a police station, further sharing photos of the impounded vehicles.

NTSA added that police were investigating the matatu crew following the emergence of a video which captured the vehicles flaunting traffic rules.

"We thank you for bringing this to our attention. The two PSVs are at the Police Station for processing and further action," read the statement in part.

The action by NTSA comes after Kenyans lamented over the conduct of the matatus on the road.

In the video shared online, the matatu was being driven on the wrong side of the road while two individuals sat on top of the vehicles along Magadi Road.

One of the vehicles named 'Moneyfest' has been linked to George; crew members of the vehicle were even invited to the Jamhuri Day luncheon at the State House.

At the event, George took a photo with the crew members.
