SHA noted that updates regarding the payment processing of pending NHIF debt will be communicated directly to healthcare facilities.

The Social Health Authority (SHA) has refuted a document doing rounds on social media claiming that the authority made a Ksh11.3 billion payout to 2588 hospitals.

In a statement on Saturday, March 15, SHA cautioned healthcare providers and members of the public against the PDF document saying the figures listed are inaccurate and should be ignored.

“The Social Health Authority (SHA) cautions healthcare providers and the public that the payment analysis document linked at.. is fake and should be ignored,” the statement read in part.

The authority noted that updates regarding the payment processing of pending National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) debt will be communicated directly to healthcare facilities.

Further, SHA said the payment of claims is made directly to healthcare providers and not via intermediaries.

“We also want to inform healthcare providers that updates regarding the payment of the pending National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) debt will be communicated directly to them.

“Note that claims payments are made directly to healthcare providers; SHA does not work with intermediaries. If you encounter any suspicious activity, please report it to SHA or the police immediately,” SHA added.

The clarification comes days after President William Ruto announced a plan to clear the outstanding debt left by NHIF.

The Head of State announced that the government will make full payments to hospitals with claims of Ksh10 million and below.

He mentioned that hospitals with claims exceeding Ksh10 million will undergo a verification process to be completed within 90 days before a structured payment plan is implemented.

"The remaining 9 percent of hospitals, with total claims of above Ksh10 million, will be subjected to a verification exercise that should be completed within 90 days after which a payment plan will be agreed on," Ruto stated.
