Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has weighed in on the removal of Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro as the Chairperson of the Budget and Appropriations Committee in the National Assembly.
Speaking on Monday, March 17 during an interview with a local radio station, Gachagua said he did not understand why Nyoro was removed from the position.
He noted that while many MPs removed from National Assembly committee leadership were his allies, Nyoro had never openly supported him.
The former DP also questioned why the seat was not given to another MP from Murang’a County supporting the Kenya Kwanza administration.
“Ndindi Nyoro was removed as Chair of the budget committee, and we do not understand why. Many are being removed for being associated with Gachagua, but I have never heard Ndindi support me. Nyoro was on March 12 replaced as the Chair of the Budget and Appropriations Committee by Alego Usonga’s Samuel Atandi.
Atandi was the only candidate who submitted his nomination papers before the deadline, making him the automatic winner.
Endebess Member of Parliament Robert Pukose was on the other hand elected as the vice chairperson of the committee.
Nyoro who had chaired the committee since November 2022, was removed from the position following a motion by National Assembly Majority Whip Sylvanus Osoro on Wednesday, March 5.
The leadership change came after President William Ruto and ODM Party leader Raila Odinga signed a 10-point memorandum to work together.
