The royal couple was received at JKIA by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe.

His Majesty King Willem-Alexander and Her Majesty Queen Máxima of the Kingdom of the Netherlands have arrived in Kenya for a state visit.

The royal couple was received at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on Monday, March 17, by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe.  

In a statement, Deputy President Kindiki highlighted the long-standing and cordial relations between Kenya and the Netherlands.

“Kenya and the Netherlands have maintained warm and cordial relations over the years. The Netherlands remains the largest buyer of Kenyan flowers. 

"Investment in the water and infrastructure sectors and the development of arid and semi-arid regions are some of the areas where Kenya has derived advantages from this symbiotic relationship,” he said.

On January 7, 2025, the Royal House of the Netherlands announced that King Willem-Alexander and his spouse will pay a state visit to Kenya. 

In a statement, the Royal House stated that the visit, made at the invitation of President William Ruto, will commence on Tuesday, March 18 and end on Thursday, March 20.

"This first state visit to Kenya is a reaffirmation of the good relations and solid cooperation between our two countries. The Netherlands seeks to engage in new partnerships in various areas, and to deepen the countries’ existing ties.

"Kenya plays an increasingly influential role in the global arena. In addition, the Netherlands and Kenya maintain close economic relations, and both are major hubs and gateways to large regions," stated the Royal House.

In addition to diplomatic discussions, the Royal House said the visit will feature economic missions focusing on sustainable agriculture and water management, areas of mutual importance.

"Economic missions focusing on sustainable agriculture and water will take place in parallel with the King and Queen’s state visit," the Royal House concluded.
