Ruto was hit by a shoe while addressing Migori residents in Kehancha on Sunday.

Leaders from Migori County have asked for forgiveness from President William Ruto after a shoe was thrown at him during an event on Sunday, May 4.

Speaking to the media on Monday, May 5, the leaders, led by the area deputy governor, Joseph Mahiri, detailed that the leaders would be holding a meeting to establish the sponsors and the perpetrators of the incident.

Mahiri added that the meeting would be held after Ruto completes his tour of the county.

He expressed that the shoe incident has tainted the image of the region, adding that it was time for people behind the incident to take individual responsibility.

"We wank to ask the people that they should not blame the Kuria community for the incident," he stated.

"After the President finished his tour, the Kuria community will meet to discuss the incident to establish those behind the act. After that, we shall announce the way forward."

Following the incident, police arrested three people, even as investigations continue into the incident.

Meanwhile, Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura has condemned the action, further calling on political tolerance among Kenyans.

Other insiders of the Kenya Kwanza administration downplayed the incident, adding that it was an accident.

“What started as a light moment quickly escalated. As the crowd eagerly raised their phones to capture the President, one creative citizen without a phone lifted his shoe in jest, pretending it was a camera. Someone beside him, annoyed that the ‘shoe-cam’ blocked his view, slapped it away. Unfortunately, it flew forward… straight toward the President," Digital strategist Dennis Itumbi expressed.
