"Yesterday they said that Kalonzo and Gachagua were denied a chance to speak in church, but we ourselves saw that there was no need."

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka now says he and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua were not barred from addressing congregants on Sunday at ACK St Stephen’s Cathedral in Nairobi.

Speaking on Monday, March 17 evening, Kalonzo said he and Gachagua saw no need to speak in church.

"Yesterday they said that Kalonzo and Gachagua were denied a chance to speak in church, but we ourselves saw that there was no need because the ACK church had already stated that no one who steals from Kenyans should come and bribe them with that money,” Kalonzo stated.

On Sunday, Archbishop of the Anglican Church of Kenya Jackson Ole Sapit banned all political rhetoric in all ACK churches across the country.

Sapit pointed out that politicians were spewing hate in churches instead of serving Kenyans.

“I want to give directions that from today henceforth, in any Anglican congregation, and I thank God my bishops are here, there will be no opportunities for political leaders to give speeches in church,” Ole Sapit said.

He added, “We will mention their names, and they will waive their hands, and if they so wish to address the congregation, it will be done so outside the sanctuary.”

Archbishop Sapit also directed politicians not to announce contributions they make to the church.

“We want to declare today that offerings in the Anglican Church will not be announced. Just give as God directs you to give,” the ACK Archbishop directed.

The service was attended by Kalonzo, Gachagua, Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa, George Aladwa, Sabina Chege, and Senator Veronica Maina.
