Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has raised the alarm over public donations by President William Ruto and his allies during a series of events on Sunday, April 13.
In a statement on Monday, April 14, Wamuchomba claimed members of the Kenya Kwanza brigade splashed over Ksh100 million in donations.
The MP questioned the source of the funds at a time when the government is reportedly struggling to meet its financial obligations.
"Pressing for accountability is our singular role. On Sunday alone, the Kenya Kwanza Brigade spent over Ksh100M in public donations and displays in Kilgoris, Githunguri, and Kiambaa.
"Every MP had some loot to also share in their constituencies. They hired many choppers and limousines. The question is, where is this money coming from yet the Government is not able to pay its own bills?" she posed.

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and Thika Town MP are among the leaders who made donations on Sunday while attending church events.
President William Ruto and Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi also made donations on Sunday during church events in Elgeyo Marakwet County and Githunguri respectively.
Interestingly, Ruto declined to disclose how much he contributed, noting that some people were jealous when such contributions were made.
"Because I came here for a church service. And you have built a nice small village church. Now it has been said that there is a little work remaining. I will coordinate with these people before I leave so that we finish the remaining work.
“I don’t want to announce it here; there are many jealous people. So, bishop and assistant chief, I’ll finish building your church from where it’s left off, along with the pastor’s house," he said.
On the other hand, Reverend Peter Kinyanjui of the PCEA stopped Sudi from announcing his contribution, highlighting the biblical principle of humility in giving.
“Mr. Sudi, because I know you have come with money, don't tell us how much you have contributed. Just come with an envelope, even if it’s from the president.
"The Bible says that whatever your hand gives the other hand should not know and that is very serious. We do not want to reveal the money we are going to give to build that church and then Jesus will say one day we were showing off," he said.
