Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has revealed plans to form an anti-human trafficking police unit.
In a statement by the CS dated Tuesday, April 22, Murkomen explained that the unit would be necessary given the growing concerns of human trafficking.
He highlighted scenarios where Kenyans were being trafficked outside the country after being cheated into taking up lucrative job deals abroad.
According to the CS, the unit will be tasked with enforcing labour migration laws.
"Human trafficking is a challenge that needs an all-of-society and multiagency approach to curb it. As a ministry, we have strengthened the fight against this vice and are looking to establish a special anti-human trafficking unit," read the statement in part.

"This will ensure stricter enforcement of labour migration regulations so that individuals luring our youth with promises of a better future abroad are brought to book."
Human trafficking involving fake jobs abroad has been a major concern for the government in recent years.
For instance, in February 2025, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs cautioned Kenyans after over 20 citizens were trafficked in Myanmar.
According to the advisory, some of the syndicates were trafficking Kenyans to work for criminal enterprises that are involved in online cams, among others.
"The Ministry further confirms that another 4 Kenyans escaped to Thailand on 8th February 2025, and were rescued by Thai civilians before being handed over to security authorities at the border area. The four Kenyans are safe and are being processed by immigration authorities before being repatriated back home," read the advisory in part.
"The Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs continues to caution against travelling to Myanmar for jobs purported to be in Thailand, only to end up in scam compounds in Myanmar. Kenyans should be aware that traffickers use Thailand as a trapdoor to lure vulnerable youth into Myanmar."
