The DCI found the rifle with an empty magazine.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested two teenagers who were in possession of a firearm.

The duo named Lopua Ekuyem (18) and Lokal Chara (19) were immediately taken into custody ahead of their arraignment as the detectives launched investigations.

They were booked into the Lokichogio Police Station.

According to the DCI, the teenagers were spotted roaming with the AK-47 rifle, which was not loaded with any rounds.

The suspecting members of the public immediately alerted the police, who set out for them.

"A swift response by Lokichogio Police officers to a tip-off from members of the public has led to the arrest of two young suspects, Lopua Ekuyen, 18, and Lokal Chara, 19, who were found in possession of rifle with an empty magazine. The two are in custody, undergoing processing ahead of their court appearance. Meanwhile, the recovered firearm and magazine are being held as exhibits," read the DCI's statement.

The DCI arrested two teenagers with a rifle.

The arrest came days after the DCI nabbed women over a gun.

One of them had posted a photo on her WhatsApp status brandishing the firearm and threatening anyone who dared to break up with her.

The DCI said on Tuesday, April 15, that detectives from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau working jointly with DCI officers from Nyando, apprehended Sharon Auma and Nancy Atieno Obura in Awasi town after the photo was shared.

The detectives tracked down Auma to Awasi where she led officers to a rented two-bedroom house belonging to Obura upon her arrest.

Following a thorough search, authorities recovered the firearm and a fake motorcycle number plate, raising further suspicions.

"A thorough search of the house turned up the pistol in question, with an empty magazine, cleverly wrapped in clothes and stashed in a basin under the bed. Also recovered is a fake motorcycle number plate bearing the number KMGG 805M," the statement added.

The two were taken into custody to undergo processing ahead of their arraignment.
