President William Ruto has appointed Prof. Makau Mutua as the Senior Advisor on Constitutional Affairs in the Executive Office of the President.

In a statement on Wednesday, April 30, Ruto praised Mutua’s extensive background in legal and constitutional matters, and welcomed him to his team.

"I have appointed Prof Makau Mutua as the Senior Advisor of Constitutional Affairs in the Executive Office of the President. Prof Mutua brings a wealth of experience in legal, constitutional and human rights matters.

"Congratulations Prof Mutua. I welcome you to join a dynamic team of public servants in the implementation of our Bottom Up Economic Transformation Agenda," he wrote on social media platform X.

Reacting to the appointment, Mutua expressed gratitude to Ruto for the appointment and promised to serve with diligence and distinction. 

"I am grateful to His Excellency President William Ruto for appointing me Senior Advisor on Constitutional Affairs in the Executive Office of the President. Our Constitution is the beating heart of the Republic. Mr President, I promise to serve you and our fellow citizens with diligence, honor, and distinction," he stated.

This appointment comes a week after Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga’s son, Jaoko Oburu Odinga, was appointed by Ruto to be the Special Advisor, Economic Empowerment and Sustainable Livelihoods. 

Taking to his X account on Tuesday, April 22, Jaoko thanked the head of state for granting him the opportunity to serve in the government.

“I wish to take this opportunity to give special thanks to H.E. President William Samoei Ruto for granting me an opportunity to serve Kenyans by appointing me to serve in the capacity of Special Advisor, Economic Empowerment, and Sustainable Livelihoods. Thank you, Your Excellency,” read part of the statement.

Jaoko also thanked ODM Party leader Raila Odinga for having faith in him and creating an environment for Kenyans to work together. 

“Thanks also, go to the Right Honourable Prime Minister, Hon. Raila Odinga, for showing his faith in me and for creating a conducive environment for Kenyans from all walks of life to work together for our beloved country, Kenya, in nation building,” Jaoko added.
