Matiang'i is being fronted by the Jubilee Party to vie for the Presidency in the 2027 general elections.

Belgut Member of Parliament Nelson Koech has advised former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i to run for Member of Parliament before eyeing the Presidency.

Speaking on Monday, May 5, during an interview, Koech explained that the late President Mwai Kibaki took nearly 40 years in politics before he was elected as President in 2002.

The UDA MP also noted that President Ruto took 28 years in politics before he was elected as the Head of State in the 2022 general election.

“William Ruto started his campaigns in 1992, just campaigning for someone else, and he won the presidential elections in 2022. Look at the history before he was elected, Matiang’i should start with running for a member of parliament so that he knows the ropes,” Koech stated.

At the same time, Koech claimed that the opposition coalition would fall out if they settle on any of them to run for president in 2027.

He argued that the principals in the coalition have egos and would not want to shelve their political ambitions.

“The biggest problem that you will see shortly is egos because who is going to run for presidency, Matiang’i has a very huge ego and he will not accept to deputize Gachagua or Kalonzo, Kalonzo has deputized for a while, will he accept again to deputize Matiang’i?” Koech posed.

Matiang’i on Friday, May 2, announced that he will be eyeing the presidential seat in the 2027 elections.

The former Interior CS in a homecoming tour in Nyamira and Kisii counties said he would work with like-minded leaders ahead of the next elections.

Before the tour, Matiang’i had been welcomed to the opposition coalition, which is led by Rigathi Gachagua and Kalonzo Musyoka.

The coalition also includes former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi and former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi, People's Liberation Party leader Martha Karua, DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa, Torome Saitoti, and Mukhisa Kituyi.

Matiang'i is also being fronted by the Jubilee Party to vie for the Presidency in the 2027 general elections.
