Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested Amos Barasa Kasili, a rider of the motorbike that trailed late Kasipul MP Charles Were before he was fatally shot along Ngong Road.
In a statement on Wednesday May 14, DCI said the suspect was arrested at the Darajani area in Kibera.
DCI noted that Barasa was apprehended following a thorough investigation that forensically connected Barasa to the main suspects and placed him at the crime scene on the fateful day.
“It was revealed that Barasa served as the rider of the motorcycle with registration number KMFZ 413W, a Bajaj Boxer, which the assailants used to trail the MP's vehicle and later as a getaway bike after the attack. Upon his arrest, Barasa was found in possession of the motorcycle in question,” DCI stated.
The investigative agency highlighted that the suspect is a habitual criminal and masquerades as a Boda Boda operator, often collaborating with armed criminal gangs during their operations.

DCI also noted that Barasa revealed he was paid Ksh 50,000 as part of compensation for his role in the murder of the ODM MP.
“During interrogation, he disclosed his involvement in the crime, revealing that he had been engaged by the main actors and received a payment of Ksh. 50,000 as part of his compensation,” DCI noted.
The detectives also noted that the motorcycle recovered from Barasa matches the description of the bike captured by CCTV footage near Parliament, which was seen trailing the late MP's vehicle.
“Profiling the suspect revealed his extensive criminal background, including previous incarceration at Industrial Area Prison, where he encountered some of the individuals involved in this heinous act,” DCI added.
The suspect is currently being processed for arraignment as investigations continue.
His arrest comes days after DCI arrested a prime suspect believed to have gunned down Were.
The suspect who has been identified as Isaac Kuria, alias Kush, was captured in Isebania, a town near the Kenya-Tanzania border while planning to flee the country.
Over 12 people are also in custody for involvement in the murder of the late Kasipul MP.
Among the suspects are Were’s driver and bodyguard, businessman, and politician, Phillip Aroko, and Lake Basin Development Authority Director Ebel Ochieng.
