"We will not tire until our county leadership and national government tightens approval processes."

Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi has issued a condolence message following the collapse of a wall at a construction site along Parklands-Suswa Road which claimed two lives.

In his statement on Wednesday, May 14, the MP mourned the loss of life and urged urgent action to address recurring construction safety failures in the area.

“My sincere condolences to the families that lost their loved ones following the tragic collapse of a wall at a construction site in Parklands-Suswa Road. Contractors need to respect and stick to the required construction standards!” he said.

Wanyonyi took issue with both the county and national government over lack of enforcement of building regulations, calling for immediate reforms.

“We have been following up with line departments as it’s becoming a recurrent issue. We will not tire until our county leadership and national government tightens approval processes and supervision of construction projects to protect innocent lives," he added.

Over the weekend, at least two workers lost their lives when a wall of a house under construction collapsed in Parklands.

The wall, which was part of the building’s basement along Suswa Road, gave way during the incident.

Police attributed the collapse to heavy rains that hit the area on Saturday, May 10.

However, other officials pointed out that the wall had been erected along the land's boundary beacons, posing a risk to neighboring properties.

Footage from the scene showed fellow workers frantically trying to rescue those trapped beneath the debris.

During the rescue attempt, another section of the wall came down, forcing the rescuers to flee for their safety.

Emergency services later arrived at the scene and recovered the bodies, which were taken to the mortuary.
