More police officers were on Monday, May 19, deployed outside Governor George Natembeya’s home in Milimani Estate, Trans Nzoia County, after locals turned rowdy.
The reinforcements were called in after residents, angered by the raid, turned hostile towards officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), who had stormed the governor's home.
In a show of defiance, locals deflated the tires of five vehicles belonging to the officers.
One of the vehicles was severely vandalized and rendered completely immobile, further intensifying the already volatile situation.
As tensions flared, tear gas was fired to disperse the agitated crowd moments after the reinforcements arrived.

Natembeya's home was raided on Monday morning, May 19, by officers drawn from EACC and DCI.
The DAP-K Party in a statement confirmed there was a heavy police presence outside Natembeya’s Kitale residence.
“A heavy contingent of police officers in plain clothes, well masked, have gained access to Governor George Natembeya, Milimani's home in Kitale. Such Moi tactics won’t work in the current life. Stop using security apparatus to settle political scores,” the party stated.
This comes after Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka exposed an alleged scheme to arrest Natembeya.
Speaking on Sunday, May 18, Kalonzo said the authorities were planning to raid the governor’s residence on Monday.
He explained that the idea is aimed at tarnishing Natembeya's name, and then he would be released without being charged.
“Governor Natembeya is threatened as we speak; on Monday, May 19, they are supposed to obtain a search warrant to search his house. The intention is to have the governor arrested, for the people of Trans Nzoia to see that their governor has been arrested, and then he gets released.
"We are on the lookout to see if they dare arrest Governor Natembeya," he said.
