All beaches in the county will be closed for 2 days.

Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir has ordered the closure of all beaches in the coastal county.

In a statement dated Friday, May 23, the county boss explained that the closure had been necessitated following the advisory issued by the Kenya Meteorological Department regarding strong winds expected over the weekend.

Therefore, all beaches in the county will be closed for 2 days.

With the closure of the beaches, all beach activities will not be allowed for the two days.

"The Meteorological Department has projected wind speeds of up to 25 knots (12.9 m/s) and wave heights of up to 2.5 meters between 23rd and 25th May 2025, posing serious risks to public safety, marine activities, and coastal infrastructure," read the statement in part.

"Following comprehensive consultations, the following precautionary measures have been adopted. All marine and ocean-related commercial or recreational activities, including fishing and water sports, are suspended until further notice."

Additionally, the county boss ordered the suspension of construction activities in the county.

"All ongoing construction work across the county is to cease immediately due to the high risk of wind-related hazards. Contractors are directed to secure sites appropriately," Nassir added.

"Residents and visitors are urged to comply fully with these safety measures. The County Government is working in close coordination with emergency and maritime agencies to manage the evolving situation and safeguard lives and property."

Earlier, Kenya Met had cautioned residents on the Kenyan coast over strong winds and large waves that would be experienced in the coastal counties for two days.

The institution advised Kenyans to avoid activities near the ocean for safety reasons.
