Robert Alai debuted in politics in 2022 with a bid for the Kileleshwa Ward.

Kileleshwa ward representative Robert Alai has ruled out going for a different seat in the 2027 general election.

He said he would be seeking to retain his Member of the Nairobi County Assembly seat.

Alai, in a local television interview, said there was a lot to be done in his ward, saying that he would not seek another post until he succeeds in his vision for Kileleshwa.

He said he is driven by service to the people at the expense of how big and influential a post is.

"In 2027, I will still become an MCA. I cannot be admiring other posts out there before I make it work in Kileleshwa. Before I admire other seats, like being an MP, governor, or senator, I have to believe in service. People go for these seats for self-enrichment. If you deliver service to the people, they will promote you to those other seats," he said.

The politician who built a brand through political blogging successfully debuted in politics in 2022 when he vied for the Kileleshwa MCA seat.

He was elected on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party ticket.

Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai.

Alai, known to be outspoken, is among the politicians backing President William Ruto.

He recently counselled the president to consider returning to ODM, on whose ticket he can seek his re-election in 2027.

Ruto was elected in 2022 under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party and is likely to use the same ticket in seeking a second term.

However, Alai believes the ODM ticket would be viable for Ruto.

He called on the president to disband the UDA party and move with all his troops into the Oranger party, in which he was once a member.

"We will disband UDA and have all UDA members register as ODM members. President Ruto must defend his seat through ODM," opined Alai.

The MCA's comments came in the wake of a working relationship between Ruto and Raila.

The two leaders, previously bitter rivals, shelved their differences to work together for what they said was in the best interest of the country.

Ruto deployed government resources and teams to champion Raila's candidacy at the Africa Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship race in February.

This would be, perhaps, in return for support from Raila's political bastions for Ruto's re-election bid in 2027.

Ruto is also on record praising the former prime minister for stepping out to stabilise the country in the face of revolt from Gen Zs.
