Nairobi County government has closed down the Club Orchid along Ngong Road following numerous noise complaints.
The entertainment joint was closed down on Friday, May 30, during a night exercise led by Nairobi County Chief Officer for Environment Geoffrey Mosiria.
He explained that the club owners would be expected to take corrective measures on dealing with noise before it is reopened again.
This includes soundproofing of the club to ensure that neighbours are not disturbed by noise during the night.
"Following persistent noise pollution complaints from area residents and the club's failure to comply with previously issued notices, Today we have officially closed down Club Orchid along Ngong Road," read the statement in part.

"The closure will remain in effect until the establishment installs proper soundproofing measures to ensure it operates within the required environmental and public health standards."

Meanwhile, he cautioned entertainment joints against contravening regulations regarding noise, adding that they would be closing down more should residents complain.
"Residents have a right to a peaceful environment, and we will continue to take firm action against any premises that violate these rights," Mosiria added.
The closure of the entertainment joint comes amidst plans to relocate the clubs from the residential estates to the CBD.
The plan was previously revealed by Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, who expressed concern over growing complaints from city residents who lament over the excessive noise from the clubs.
In some cases, school-going children have been unable to sleep at night owing to the noise.
As a result, the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) has on several occasions ordered the closure of some of the entertainment joints within Nairobi.
