Prediction models indicate that 1 million Kenyans would have contracted Covid-19 and 150,000 may have died.
This was announced by President Uhuru Kenyatta who lauded his administration for taking measures to save lives.
"The economy was projected to grow by 6% last year but it only grew by 0.6%. This is the price we had to pay in 2020 for the bold decision we made to save the lives of Kenyans," he said.
"We do not know how this virus will spread or the havoc it will reign on our population."
The President said although economies around the world shrunk Kenya's did not as he added that the economy is projected to bounce back and grow by 7% in 2021.
