The National Police Service (NPS) has responded to a recent media report highlighting alleged insecurity in Nairobi’s CBD after an attack targeting businesses at Nanak House.
In a statement on Monday, August 25, the NPS noted that the incident was initially portrayed as part of a growing trend of insecurity, however, the police have since determined the attack to be more targeted and specific in nature.
"The National Police Service (NPS) has noted a story aired yesterday on a leading media station, which depicted what was described as a 'worrying state of insecurity within the Central Business District (CBD) of Nairobi'.
"Following a careful analysis of the incident that took place on Friday, 22nd August 2025, at Nanak House, detectives have ascertained certain facts. These point to a deliberate attack on four businesses within the said building, which appears to be linked to an internal dispute of a civil nature, a matter that is already before the court," the statement read.
NPS confirmed that an individual has already been apprehended in connection with the case, and further developments are expected soon.

"An arrest has already been made, and further arrests and progress are expected. These facts were detailed by the Regional Police Commander responsible for Nairobi this afternoon," the statement added.
The police also reiterated their commitment to ensuring safety in the city centre and across the country.
"The National Police Service wishes to assure the public that Nairobi Central Business District remains one of the most secure areas in which to conduct business. Its status as a symbol of the capital city cannot be overemphasised.
"Furthermore, the general state of security across the country remains commendably good, a result of the efforts executed on a daily basis alongside the invaluable support of the public," the statement further read.
This comes months after NPS was forced to respond to a viral video showing a police officer carrying laptops from a looted shop during protests on Tuesday, June 17.
In a statement on Wednesday, June 18, the NPS explained that the laptops were part of property recovered after several shops were broken into.
"NPS wishes to clarify that following recent protests in Nairobi, several shops were broken into and various items were stolen. Police officers arrested one suspect and recovered four laptops, which are now in safe custody as exhibits at the Central Police Station, Nairobi," the statement read.
The police urged affected business owners to come forward and assist in identifying the recovered property.
Additionally, NPS reassured the public that further steps are being taken to bring those involved in criminal activities during the demos to justice.
"We therefore urge anyone whose premises were broken into and had laptops stolen to visit the station to identify the recovered items.
"Meanwhile, an investigation is ongoing to identify and arrest those involved in the criminal activities during the protests," the statement concluded.
