A police officer was on Monday, June 2 shot dead and two other officers were injured after being attacked by an armed gang in Nakuru's Freehold area.
The three police officers were on patrol at around 1:29 am when they were ambushed by the armed assailants.
The two officers who sustained injuries during the attack were rushed to Nakuru Level Five Hospital for treatment.
Two suspects have so far been arrested in connection with the attack on the police officers, while a manhunt for the remaining suspects is still ongoing.
The death of the police officer brings the total number of fatalities to five in a two-week spate of similar incidents in Nakuru County.

On Saturday, a 24-year-old trader, Elias Mwambili, was fatally shot during a robbery in Nakuru County.
The trader was shot in the abdomen and succumbed to his injuries while being rushed to the hospital.
According to witnesses, three armed men stormed Mwambili’s shop around 8 PM, violently assaulting him before one of them fired the fatal shot.
"It was around 8 PM when I heard a commotion, and when I opened the door, I saw two robbers inside the shop beating up Mwambili before pulling him out and continuing to beat him. After a while, we had a gunshot and the victim stopped screaming," said Monicah Njeri, a nearby resident.
The suspected robbers made off with approximately Ksh200,000 during the robbery.
