President Uhuru Kenyatta has banned political gatherings in the country for a period of 30 days.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has banned gatherings in the country following the surge of Covid-19 cases in the country.

The head of state prohibited public political gatherings in the country, stating that they are key in the spread of the deadly virus.

He directed police officers in the country to ensure that leaders and members of the public alike, adhere to the said directive.

"Cognizant of the propagation of Covid-19 within our borders has been fueled by large public and social gatherings today I direct that all forms of gatherings are prohibited for a period of 30 days effective midnight on this March 12, 2021," President Kenyatta declared.


He stated the ban shall be lifted or extended depending on the nature of infections after the period elapses.

"I hereby direct the government administration officers to work closely with county governments and National Police Service to strictly enforce this public order regardless of political and social status of conveners of these gatherings," the Head of State directed.

He further ordered that funeral and burial services of Covid-19 victims in the country be strictly conducted within 72 hours.

President Kenyatta ordered that crematoria and funeral services be limited to a maximum of 100 attendees.

"Marriage and other union ceremonies be capped at 100 person," he ordered.

He further directed that places of worship be capped at a third the capacity.
