The interruptions are part of routine network maintenance.

Kenya Power has announced scheduled electricity interruptions across nine counties on Thursday, June 5, as part of routine network maintenance.  

In a statement on Wednesday, June 4, the utility firm said the planned outages will affect parts of Nyandarua, Uasin Gishu, Nandi, Kakamega, Kiambu, Garissa, Tana River, Lamu, and Kilifi counties. 

In Nyandarua County, power will be cut in areas including Kwaharaka, Mwendandu, Karangatha, Nyakio, Mukiri, Ragia, Kenyatta Road, Magumu High School, Heni, Rwanyambo, Githioro, Gathanga, and Bongo Girls School, among others. 

The outage is expected to run from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

In Uasin Gishu County, residents in Naiberi, Laini Moja, Kamiti, Losirwa, and Lotonyok will experience a blackout from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. 

Meanwhile, in Nandi County, the Mosoriot area, including Mbelekenya, Mutwot, Itigo, Kokwet, and Tebeson, will be without power from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Kakamega County will see interruptions in Samitsi Market, Malava Boys, Mugai Market, and Khalenda Market from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

In Kiambu County, two main areas are scheduled for disconnection; Ruaka Market and surrounding areas, including Getrudes Ruaka, Quickmart Ruaka, Slaughter, California Road, Kanungu, Delta Ruaka, Royal Brain, and Border will be affected. 

Similarly, Juja Farm Athi, Mukuyuni, Kwa Murage, Kwa Ruhi, and St. Michael Girls will also face a blackout during the same hours.

Garissa County’s Balambala and Sankuri areas, including Saka, Quba, IGRA, Bulla Buris, Sumeya, KPLC Pole Yard, Maua Millers, Garissa Solar, Raya, and Sunshine, will be affected from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

In Tana River County, parts of Loitoktok and Mwatate, such as Sarova and Salt Lick lodges, Mwashuma, Bura, Zare, Kamtonga, Chungaunga KWS, Maktau, and Lumo Conservancy will be affected. 

Customers in Kwa Mnengwa, Godoma, and surrounding areas will also be without electricity.

Lamu County’s Lamu Island and Shella Village, including Lawasko, Peponi Hotel, Palace Hotel, King Fahad Hospital, Kijani Hotel, Langoni, Mkomani, Mkunguni, and several government offices such as KPA, KRA, and Huduma Centre, will experience power cuts from morning to evening.

Kilifi County will face widespread outages in several areas.

In Kanamai, key institutions and businesses such as Pwani Oil Ltd, Revital EPZ, Vipingo Industries, and Sun n Sand Beach Resort will be affected. 

Other impacted locations include Shariani Center, Kikambala, Swafaa Academy, and surrounding residential estates. 

Additional areas in Mkoroshoni, Mtondia, Tezo, Chumani, Magorani, Zowerani, and Roka will also be without electricity during the maintenance window.
