Nyando MP Jared Okello has weighed in on the heckling of Deputy President Kithure Kindiki in Othaya, Nyeri County, claiming it was orchestrated by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and his allies.

Speaking on Thursday, June 5, Okello claimed the public reaction to Kindiki’s address was not a spontaneous act but a planned move aimed at undermining the DP.

The lawmaker alleged that the disruption was engineered by political operatives still bitter about Gachagua's impeachment as DP.

"Deputy President Kithure Kindiki being heckled in Othaya right after President Ruto’s thunderous welcome in Homa Bay is not coincidental.

"They were a hired team, organized by Wamunyoro's team, who are still nursing their impeachment disorder," he said.

During an empowerment event held in Othaya on Wednesday, June 4, a group of youth caused a stir by threatening to disrupt the function, chanting 'wantam' slogans just outside the perimeter fence.

Footage from the scene captured the group loudly heckling Kindiki with the now-popular ‘Wantam’ chant, a slogan being championed by Gachagua.

Addressing the incident, Kindiki took aim at the protestors and Gachagua, accusing him of using intimidation, particularly targeting leaders from the Mount Kenya region.

“This habit of leaders intimidating others must stop. We must respect one another. Respect is not servitude. You cannot show up acting as if you are the only leader who knows everything; that only you should be listened to. Are you God?" he posed.
