The CTUG brings together national trade union centres from across the Commonwealth, representing over 70 million members in more than 40 countries.
The union group, which is networked through the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC), plays a key role in advancing the interests of workers globally.
It was established in 1979 as the Commonwealth Trade Union Council (CTUC) and was later renamed in 2004.
“As CTUG, we are privileged to have a special seat at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meetings, where we actively contribute to shaping labour policies,” Atwoli added.
Besides COTU and CTUG, Atwoli serves as the president of the Organisation of African Trade Union Unity (OATUU), Vice President of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) and a member of the International Labour Organisation’s (ILO) Governing Body in Geneva.
