Police officers from Kamukunji Police Station on Tuesday, June 17, arrested a suspected terrorist in Nairobi.
In a statement, the National Police Service (NPS) said the suspect was arrested at around 11:20 PM by officers who were on patrol.
NPS noted that the suspect’s erratic behavior attracted the attention of the police officers, prompting them to question him.
“Police officers on patrol at approximately 23:20 hours yesterday identified and arrested a man on suspicion of potential involvement in terror-related activities.
“His evasive and erratic behaviour attracted the attention of alert officers from Kamukunji Police Station, prompting them to question him and inspect the contents of a bag in his possession,” read part of the statement.

The officers searched the suspect and found him in possession of 21 detonators, 21 packets of a white substance, and a five-meter-long electric cable.
“Upon a further search, the 22-year-old suspect was found to be carrying 21 detonators, along with 21 packets of a white substance suspected to be ammonium nitrate, a five-metre-long electric cable, and other items,” NPS added.
The suspect was immediately detained and later handed over to the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) for further interrogation as investigations proceed.
The arrest of the suspected terrorists comes days after two suspected Al-Shabaab militants were killed in a security operation along the Alungu-Elwak road in Mandera County.
The elite Special Operations Group carried out a pre-dawn raid after receiving credible intelligence that the militants were in the final stages of placing explosives on the busy road.
During the operation, officers recovered two AK-47 rifles, a Rocket-Propelled Grenade (RPG) warhead, and a fully assembled IED.
