The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has demanded that the National Police Service (NPS) make public the name of the officer who shot Boniface Kariuki, a mask vendor in the CBD.
In a statement dated Wednesday, June 18, LSK noted that the service had not identified the cop in their earlier statement.
Equally, the lawyers challenged the police to demonstrate that disciplinary action had been taken against the officer.
LSK President Faith Odhiambo explained that the demands were necessary as action against the cop would be a deterrent to other officers.

"We shall not dance to the piper over a statement that is not only ambiguous but also fails to take responsibility for the criminal conduct of the officer in question. From the Statement by the National Police Service, there is no evidence that the officer has been indicted for his heinous crime," read the statement in part.
"We demand that the officer's name, identity, and service number be disclosed, and that he be prosecuted promptly. He must be treated as the face of Impunity and criminality within the Police Service, and his ultimate punishment must serve as a lasting deterrent for all officers who undermine and violate their constitutional duties.
According to NPS, the officer who was filmed shooting the vendor was arrested. However, the identity was not revealed.
The vendor, on the other hand, had a bullet lodged in his skull and underwent a 2-hour surgery to have the bullet removed.
Kariuki is currently in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Kenyatta National Hospital.
Further, LSK called on the police to take action against officers who were working alongside the goons.
The lawyers revealed that one of their members was assaulted by goons who were transported by a police vehicle.
"We are exasperated by videos showing an attack by the criminal gang on an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, who was on his way to a meeting with a client," read the statement in part.
Mr Ken Ochieng has confirmed that he witnessed the crowd of goons who descended on him being dropped off along Koinange Street by a Police Land Cruiser, escorted by several bodabodas carrying multiple armed pillion passengers."
