Builders are racing against time to put up a new house for slain teacher and blogger Albert Ojwang.
Ojwang's father, Meshack Opiyo, had lived in a semi-permanent shanty for years until his son's death.
The Homa Bay County government under Governor Gladys Wanga took it upon itself to construct a two-bedroom house for the family.
The family projects to have the house ready for occupation before Ojwang's burial.

Photos from the site emerged showing the progress a few days after the construction works began.
Going by the photos, the builders are already in the superstructure phase, nearing the roofing stage.
The county is expected to furnish the house after the construction.
Elsewhere, Governor Wanga had also pledged to rebuild the house Ojwang was in the process of constructing before his death.
The construction of the houses in Ojwang's home adds to the charitable acts extended to the family since the death of the blogger.
President William Ruto donated Ksh 2 million to the family, with ODM leader Raila Odinga giving Ksh 1 million.
Nairobi governor Johnson Sakaja employed the deceased's widow at City Hall, besides pledging real estate business for Ojwang's parents.
Kenyans also donated millions to the family through online fund drives.
Ojwang was killed on June 7 inside a cell at Nairobi's Central Police Station.
His death came hours after his arrest in Homa Bay County.
Ojwang was arrested by five Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers acting on a complaint of defamation lodged by Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Lagat.
His death sparked uproar among Kenyans, who took to the streets to protest while mounting pressure on Lagat to leave office and face justice alongside other officers implicated in the murder.
