William Ruto Declares Action after Police Stations Were Torched during Protests

President William Ruto has sanctioned a crackdown on the culprits behind damage and injuries during the June 25th protests.

Speaking at State House, Nairobi, on Saturday, June 28, the president expressed his displeasure with the acts of lawlessness during the memorial protests.

Ruto was particularly disturbed by the damage caused to police stations and other government installations.

A handful of police stations were torched; the Kikuyu Law Courts was also set ablaze.

The president was also troubled by the hostility caused to the police by the protesters and the injuries they caused to the officers of law.

Hinting at tough measures against protests going forward, the president declared that criminals wouldn't be allowed to erode public order.

"We cannot have a country where criminals run after our policemen. If a policeman’s life is in danger, then, how can our families be safe?" the president posed, adding that "this trend must change."

He declared that the perpetrators of the violence will be brought before justice to face the consequences of their alleged actions.

The president restated his promise to support the police despite the animosity extended to them by the public.

"The criminals that attacked our officers and destroyed property in the Wednesday mayhem will be held to account. We will stand by every man and woman in uniform and protect them, as they discharge their duties. That is how we will have a more secure and stable Kenya where meaningful development occurs," he said.
