A teacher died and several pupils sustained injuries following a tragic road accident on Thursday, July 3, along the Taita Taveta-Mombasa highway in the Maasai area.

The victims were part of a school delegation returning from a regional music and drama festival at Kenyatta High School.

The ill-fated school bus was ferrying students and teachers back from the festival when the accident occurred.

In the wake of the tragedy, Jomvu MP Badi Twalib visited the injured students receiving treatment at Mikindani Hospital.

“I visited the students receiving treatment at Mikindani Hospital following the heartbreaking road accident in the Masai area of Taita Taveta — an accident that tragically claimed the life of a devoted teacher who had accompanied them for the music festival,” he said.

“After visiting the injured students, I proceeded to Mikindani Comprehensive School, where I met with anxious parents and the grieving school community. I shared words of comfort, helped calm the situation, and urged everyone to remain patient as we await further updates,” he stated.

Twalib also announced that he would cover all medical expenses for the injured students and assured families of his continued support.

“I have pledged to cover all medical expenses for the injured students and want to assure the entire community of my full support during this difficult time,” he said.

Twalib further urged the community to remain united in the face of the tragedy, offering condolences to the bereaved family and the school at large.

“In moments like these, we must stand together. My heart goes out to the bereaved family, the students, and the entire school community. We will walk through this pain together, step by step, until healing comes,” he said.
